WHERE DOES THE MAGIC OF RADIO COME FROM? When we perform live in the studio, it feels somehow more relaxed and intimate than just about any other performance.
There's something about the quiet acoustics and cozy ambiance of a radio studio and the rich, warm sound of the headphones. Some part of your brain registers that there's an invisible audience out there somewhere... but the best studio performances capture the gemütlichkeit of the studio.
We thought you might like to check out a couple recent radio interviews
Hundred Proof Fountain is a show on Louisville's ARTxFM Radio, hosted by Joel Deckard and Johanna Sims. They put us on the show while we were touring, and we had a great time singing and talking. You can hear the entire program by clicking here. Can you tell that we were all playing music until about 4 a.m. the night before?
More recently, we were invited onto Charlie Knower's radio show, Driftless Weekend, right here on our own local community radio station, WDRT. You can check out that interview by clicking here.
IF YOU LOOK REAL CLOSE, you can see our tiny little heads poking out from behind the hood of that Jeep rolling by. Another day, another photo op.
I know I promised to post tour updates from the road, but, well, we've been having too much fun with all our new friends in Louisville, Nashville, and St. Louis. It's been amazing.
Huge thanks to all of the folks who have come out to see us and given us such love!
--Joe & Nikki
HOW LUCKY CAN TWO FOLKS BE? Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for the wonderful time at the CD release party in Viroqua. We were surrounded by friends and strangers with friendly faces and we are still glowing with the Kickapoo love we received.
We know that some of you were a little frustrated by the sound. It is a tough room, and there were some problems with the sound system. Sorry about that. For us, the wonderful atmosphere created by Dani Lind and the rest of the crew at the Rooted Spoon/Drinkery more than made up for any glitches.
Special thanks to Andreas Transo and Black Cat for performing, Carl Schlecht for MCing, Phil Parhamovich for his magic on the CD, and Jim Luhning for capturing it all on film. We were also delighted that Wisco Pop launched its Kickstarter campaign that night. You can contribute by clicking right here. (If we missed anyone else here, please give a holler. We are so grateful for all the support.) Most of all, a big thanks to all of you wonderful people who came out to celebrate with us.
If you missed the show, you can catch us in January back home after the tour. We're working on making the CD available here in town, and we will post that information as soon as we finalize the details.
We will be leaving Viroqua early Wednesday morning, under the light of the full moon. We will try to document the tour right here on the blog.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Love from Joe and Nikki
In the hurry scurry of getting this CD out we forgot something important--Jim Luhning should be credited for the photos on the CD cover! Jim took the time to specifically set up the shots--then Nikki colorized them by hand and we put them into the layouts.
We're especially sorry about this mistake, because Jim has been so incredibly generous with us. If you've followed the band at all, you know Jim's work. He's a professional photographer with an amazing eye and an impressive professional history. He takes art photographs as well as portraits, and he's been on the road with bands as a tour photographer.
Jim moved to Viroqua a few years ago. He's a music lover, and he quickly made friends in the local music scene--and loves taking photographs of the people who play around here. Jim captures the personalities of the people he photographs the way that only a truly great photographer can. If you check out his work, (he posts a lot of pictures to his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jim.luhning), you'll see what an amazing shooter he is.
He's also one of the most generous people we've come across. In addition to the CD art, the majority of the pictures on this site are photos he gave us, and he is constantly posting amazing portraits to our Facebook page. And I know that the Sapsuckers are not the only recipients of his generosity. He's a giving soul, and we are incredibly lucky and grateful to have him in our town.
Jim--thanks so much for everything you do for this community. If we didn't mention it from the stage last night, it's not for lack of appreciation of your skills and your generous good nature. Thanks for all you do!!!
